46th Annual General Meeting and Spring Rally
 Grassington Town Hall
Saturday, 11 May 2024

On behalf of the Committee of the North East Region, you are invited to join in our ‘French Olympic” themed Spring Rally, 2024, which will be held at Grassington Town Hall.  Doors will open at 9.30 am and ringing will commence at 10.30 am.  The Rally will end at 5.00 pm. Costumes, table decoration and music to suit the occasion are encouraged; you may also opt to choose music representative of a country entering the Olympic Games!

Medals will be awarded to the top three teams who have the best “dressed” tables.

Teams will have the opportunity to perform one item in each of the two main sessions, but if you would like to play an additional item if time allows, then please indicate this on the application form.  Please, as always, make sure that you are aware of copyright issues (if you are unsure, look at the HRGB Guidance section on the HRGB website).

There will be two Massed Ringing pieces ‘Chariots of Fire’ - Vangelis (conducted by Rona Gager, Ecclesfield HBR) and ‘Gymnopédie No 1 – Eric Satie (conducted by Tom Baker, Beverley Town HBR) Please note that ‘Chariots of Fire’ was performed at Grassington in 2015 so teams may have copies in their music collection.

It is hoped that these two pieces will offer something for ringers of all abilities and teams of all sizes.

Please note that “Chariots of Fire” has a significant use of mallets in the opening section.  If your band has a set of mallets, please bring them along.

The transcription of Gymnopédie No 1 is fairly straightforward in musical terms but will require skill in maintaining a slow steady rhythm throughout with significant changes in expression!  A challenge indeed!

It is hoped that these two pieces will offer something for ringers of all abilities and teams of all sizes.  Massed Ringing Music will be 'Free' to teams.  However there will be a charge of £2.50 per copy for printed versions plus postage (£2.00 for up to five copies and £3.00 for over five copies).

The music for Massed Ringing will be emailed to you as a PDF when your application is received – please make sure you indicate which version you require.  If you are unable to download the music please order printed copies on the application form.

Grassington is a popular venue and space is limited, so please send your booking in early.  There will be some space and spare bells for individuals to join in the Massed Ringing.

The AGM will form an integral part of the Rally.  The agenda for the 2024 AGM, minutes of the 2023 AGM and the accounts for the year ending 31 December 2023 are available on the website by following the links above.

As in previous Rallies, there will be hot and cold drinks and cakes available for sale.  There will be no meals provided, so it is suggested that members bring a packed lunch or visit one of the many cafes in Grassington for a meal at lunchtime.  We would be grateful for contributions of a cake from each team and also for raffle prizes (but please note that we are unable to accept donations of alcohol and please make sure that what you contribute is in date!).

Please complete the online Application Form (following the link below) or alternatively by printing off the PDF version (following the link below) and sending it to: Rona Gager 3 Sandpiper Road, Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham, S61 5UN or via (email ronagager@gmail.com) by the 4 May 2024.

Preferred payment is by online transfer to Account No: 27632690, Sort code: 05-02-37. Please make sure that you add your team name as a reference or alternatively by cheque made payable to ‘HRGB NE Region’.
